Inter Vs. Juventus, 2011 Serie A: Second Half Kicks Off With Juve Defending 2-1 Lead

Stay connected with SB Nation

The first 45 minutes of the season's first Derby d'Italia featured plenty of back and forth, with both teams applying plenty of pressure. The first goal, courtesy of Mirko Vucinic, gave Juventus an early lead, but Inter Milan equalized through an impressive volley by Maicon. Just five minutes later, however, a back and forth between Alessandro Matri and Claudio Marchisio led to the latter giving Juventus a 2-1 lead going into halftime.

Athough the first half featured very little in the way of simmering tempers (despite Marchisio's penalty appeal), the second is already rather chippy. The nerazzurri are taking out their anger on the ball -- but with their fists rather than their feet, punching it when calls don't go their way. As for Juve, Giorgio Chiellini picked up a yellow card for a shove against Giampaolo Pazzini, but replays showed the Inter forward may have been making a bit much out of the challenge. Then Simone Pepe picked up a deserved card for a trip on Maicon, making that four yellows total for Juventus.
