Besides developing a reputation as a very, very good team in the regular season, the Seattle Sounders developed a reputation as being the best closers in the league. Amazingly, when trailing after 75 minutes, the Sounders were more likely to get a result from a match than they were lose the match. Yup, they went 3-5-3 during the regular season when trailing after 75 minutes. That's because of an amazing 15 goals in the final 15 minutes of matches. Now, in their playoff opener, they'll need some of that magic because they trail Real Salt Lake, 2-0, after 75 minutes.
This is just the first leg of a two-legged tie so the Sounders' playoff lives aren't on the line yet, but they don't want to go home needing to make up a multiple goal difference. Unfortunately, they've shown no signs of being able to get a second goal. Simply put, they've been very, very bad tonight. They could really use the injured Mauro Rosales because they lack creativity in the final third and Fredy Montero has been invisible. They don't have him though, but they'll still have to conjure up some of that late match magic anyways.
