Though Villarreal likely saved manager Juan Carlos Garrido's job with a 2-0 win over Rayo Vallecano over the weekend, things are still looking bad for the Yellow Submarine. Giuseppe Rossi's torn ACL all but spelled the end of their Champions League campaign, and news of another injury makes it feel unlikely that they'll qualify for Europa League or be in the top half of La Liga come the winter holidays. Colombian international defender Cristian Zapata has sprained knee ligaments and is expected to miss five weeks.
Villarreal face a tough Champions League match against Manchester City this week, a virtual must-win after failing to win in their first three matches. In addition to Rossi and Zapata, the team will still be without Cani, Marcos Senna and Marco Ruben.
The Yellow Submarine were extremely entertaining last season in La Liga and the Europa League, but the combination of some terrible injury luck and the sale of Santi Cazorla to Malaga has seriously derailed their campaign.
