New York Red Bulls Vs. Los Angeles Galaxy Live, 2011 MLS: Sloppy And Direct Early

The Los Angeles Galaxy and New York Red Bulls both look like teams willing to go forward and try and win the game in the first 15 minutes of their match, but it's been a bit sloppy and direct thus far. Neither team seems to trust their ability to keep the ball, and the short passing has been minimal. Instead, both teams are trying to create chances with long balls, and while there haven't been any clear-cut goal scoring opportunities, it's been fairly effective.

David Beckham created the most dangerous looking chance of the game, playing a through ball past the midfield for Chad Barrett to run onto. Makeshift rookie central defender Stephen Keel reacted late, but Red Bulls' experienced goalkeeper Frank Rost came off his line to clear. Rost has also made a couple of saves on long shots by Paolo Cardozo and Juninho.

Thierry Henry and Luke Rodgers are looking very active up top for New York, but there's not a whole lot of quality in midfield, either in supplying them with the ball or getting forward in support. That same midfield failed to close down on Juninho and Cardozo's long shots, and really needs to improve quickly.
