Chelsea are up 1-0 at halftime of their UEFA Champions League match against Racing Genk, but their lead should be considerably larger. The Blues had all of the ball in the first half, created a number of shots and won a penalty, but could only manage one goal.
The goal was scored by Ramires in the 25th minute, set up for Fernando Torres. Much maligned for his inability to finish easy chances on regular occasions in a Chelsea shirt, Torres has regularly been a creative force for his team in the Champions League and notched another assist today, hitting Ramires with a through ball after a set piece. The Brazilian international finished the chance from close range, between the legs of László Köteles, giving his side the early lead.
In the 39th minute, the referee granted a penalty for a handball in the box by Thomas Buffel. David Luiz stepped up and hit his penalty hard, but didn't place it well, making it possible for Köteles to get in front of it and make a good save, getting his team into the locker room only down one goal.
