Colombia and Argentina both suffered disappointing results on Matchday 3 of CONMEBOL World Cup 2014 Qualifying and will be looking for three points on Tuesday.
Following disappointing performances on Friday's Matchday 3, both Colombia and Argentina will be thinking about three points on Tuesday when they face off in CONMEBOL World Cup 2014 qualifying. In another year and another situation, Colombia might be content with a draw against the South American giants, but the Albiceleste are struggling and Colombia are in need of points after dropping two in the last round.
Even without star striker Radamel Falcao, Colombia were expected to defeat Venezuela at home in the last round of fixtures. Fredy Guarin scored early and they held onto their lead for a long time, but Frank Feltscher found a deserved equalizer for a Venezuela team that arguably outplayed their opponents.
Argentina could only manage a draw against Bolivia, a team who has given them serious trouble over the last two years. With Sergio Aguero and Angel di Maria out, Alejandro Sabella finally introduced Javier Pastore into the lineup. There were some serious growing pains and the team didn't seem to mesh well.
At the back, Martin Demichelis had a terrible game for Argentina. He hasn't been at top level for his country or either of his most recent clubs - Malaga and Bayern Munich - for quite some time. His poor performance could lead to Javier Mascherano moving from midfield to the center of defense, a position that he has played for Barcelona in the absence of Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol.
Jackson Martinez started in place of Falcao for Colombia against Venezuela and played well, but the team unsurprisingly lacked the same punch. Guarin, the goalscorer, will likely continue to be the focal point of Colombia's attack from his central attacking midfield position and will have to be at his best for Colombia to pull a minor upset.
