Chile Vs. Paraguay, 2014 CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying: Halftime Score, Chile Lead 1-0

Stay connected with SB Nation

Paraguay are playing their usual tactics, bunkering on the road with no intention of committing men forward, but they'll have to change things in the second half. Pablo Contreras has Chile in the lead thanks to a 27th minute goal, incredibly enough on a corner kick. Paraguay have made a living off defending and attacking set pieces in recent years, but poor marking undid them on this occasion.

Matias Fernandez, back in the side, was the man who provided the assist. He's been brilliant outside of just that corner, and he could be well on his way to winning a starting job from the suspended Jorge Valvida. It's been interesting to see both Eduardo Vargas and Alexis Sanchez on the pitch at the same time, while Mauricio Isla has been extremely active on the right.

Paraguay have Lucas Barrios on the bench, and should probably think about using him.
