Nicolas Burdisso suffered a knee injury in Argentina's 2-1 win over Colombia on Tuesday and will almost certainly miss the rest of the season. The AS Roma defender clattered into Porto winger James Rodriguez, and the resulting carnage was enough to make almost any football fan's stomach turn. At first it seemed as though Burdissio may have fractured his leg, but Roma have confirmed ligament damage to his left knee.
Nico has played every league match for his club, starting in eight out of ten Serie A games. With the Argentine out, Roma do have a few defenders to fall back on: Gabriel Heinze can be used centrally. They've got Juan, but come on, do you really want to make Roma fans even more depressed right now? The best bet would seem to be Simon Kjaer, who started the Rome derby paired with Heinze in central defense. They might also want to think about recalling youngster Alessandro Crescenzi from Bari.
