Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has suffered a broken collarbone in the UEFA Champions League match against Napoli and will miss 4-6 weeks.

Following his untimely substitution in the UEFA Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Napoli, Bayern midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will be out for 4-6 weeks due to a broken collarbone, according to the team press officer. Schweinsteiger went down injured in the 51st minute of the match, with Anatoliy Tymoshchuk replacing him in the 53rd minute. Initial reports called the injury a separated shoulder, but those reports were apparently erroneous, as the injury is much more serious.

Schweinsteiger will now miss international duty with the German national team in November, though he will only miss out on friendly matches. During the timetable Schweinsteiger is expected to be out, he will almost certainly miss key matches against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and Villarreal in the Champions League. The 4-6 week timeline would also make him a doubt for the December 3 Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen and the December 7 Champions League match against Manchester City.

Either Tymoshchuk or Luiz Gustavo will likely replace Schweinsteiger in his absence, though neither is a like for like replacement, either in playing style or current form.
