In the first half of the match between Getafe and Barcelona, very little happened. Barcelona failed to create chances and Getafe succeeded at making the game ugly. It was exactly what they wanted. In the beginning of the second half, nothing changed at all. It looked as if Getafe were going to give cross-town rivals Real Madrid a massive boost in the title race by nicking a 0-0 draw. Then, the goal happened.
In the 67th minute, Valera rose up in the box to get on the end of a corner kick by Pablo Sarabia. He got up above the Barcelona defense and placed his header perfectly to the far post, eluding Victor Valdes and giving Getafe a miracle goal. It was the only shot that hit the target for them in their incredible 1-0 win.
Barcelona played their regular game, keeping possession and playing short passes, but the off the ball movement in the box was non-existent. When David Villa got chances, he completely threw them away. It was an exceptionally poor performance, even by Villa's standards over the last year.
Los Cules almost found a late equalizer, when Xavi played a brilliant long ball into the box for Lionel Messi to run onto. You would have put money on Messi to score, but he struck the post.
Barcelona now trail Real Madrid by six points in La Liga.
