Chelsea take on Liverpool in the Carling Cup, where both teams will field a weakened side.
Chelsea and Liverpool are two teams who have very high aspirations in the Premier League. Both are coming off of Premier League games where they played first choice sides, and they are headed into Premier League games at the weekend where they will play first choice sides. The time of the same XI playing three games in a week will come later, but in November, both Kenny Dalglish and Andre Villas-Boas will want to rest their stars. The 2011 Carling Cup Quarterfinal clash between Liverpool and Chelsea should be interesting, but hardly a clash of the titans.
Didier Drogba, Ashley Cole, Juan Mata, Charlie Adam, Luis Suarez and Lucas Leiva are among the stars that will almost certainly not start this match. Both teams are deep, especially with their youth, so this game will present a great opportunity to see the Liverpool and Chelsea youngsters get starts alongside first-team players.
