UEFA Europa League 2011, Matchday 4: Atletico Madrid Crush Udinese In Late Game

A draw between Austria Vienna and AZ Alkmaar left the door open for Metalist Kharkiv to secure their place at the top of Group G, and an emphatic home win against Malmo saw the Ukrainians move four points clear at the top of the table. A home win against Vienna on Matchday will now ensure that Metalist finish in first place. Brugge, Birmingham and Braga find themselves atop Group B H with seven points apiece, which means everything is very much up in the air there (except for the fate of poor NK Maribor, hammered 5-1 at the Quarry). Why did we stop using goal difference? GD makes sense!

Atletico Madrid shocked Udinese by thrashing the Serie A side 4-0 in Spain, vaulting over their visitors to lead Group I, with Celtic in third place. In Group J, Schalke-Larnaca was an insipid affair marked only by a horrific injury to Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, the Dutch striker's nose essentially removed by a teammate's elbow. The Bundesliga side remain top of the group despite the 0-0 draw.

Fulham hammered Wisla Krakow 4-1 in a game which featured a superb goal by Andrew Johnson to secure their hold on second place in Group K. Twente still look as though they'll be difficult for the Cottagers to catch - the Eredivisie side are three points clear with two games to go. Meanwhile in Group L, Anderlecht have secured qualification and Locomotiv Moscow are on the verge of doing the same, both earning convincing wins.

Here's the complete scoreboard from the late fixtures.

Austria Vienna 2-2 AZ Alkmaar

FC Metalist Kharkiv 3-1 Malmo FF

Birmingham City 2-2 Club Brugge

Braga 5-1 NK Maribor

Atletico Madrid 4-0 Udinese

Celtic 3-1 Stade Rennes

Schalke 04 0-0 AEK Larnaca

Steaua Bucharest 4-2 Maccabi Haifa

Fulham 4-1 Wisla Krakow

FC Twente 3-2 Odense BK

AEK Athens 1-3 Lokomotiv Moscow

Anderlecht 3-0 SK Sturm Graz

UEFA Europa League 2011, Matchday 4: PSV Eindhoven Vs. Hapoel Tel-Aviv The Highlight Of Early Fixtures

The first set of fixtures in Matchday 4 of the UEFA Europa League has concluded, with PSV Eindhoven and Hapoel Tel-Aviv contesting one of the best matches of the season in Europe. Hapoel needed an improbable win away in Holland to keep their hopes of advancing alive and almost got it, but couldn't keep their 3-1 lead as PSV eventually came back to clinch a point in a 3-3 draw.

Hapoel's Roei Gordana was sent off in the 72nd minute with his side leading 3-2, and the rest of the match was absolutely wild. Referee Stuart Atwell gave a penalty late in the match, then was convinced to take it back by his assistant, causing PSV to go absolutely ballistic. Kevin Strootman was booked for dissent on the sequence. Strootman would go on to score the equalizer just two minutes later, securing a point for his side. Tim Matavz appeared to score a winner deep into stoppage time, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Tottenham Hotspur were involved in one of the most high-profile fixtures of the round away to Rubin Kazan, but actually produced a bit of a boring match. Spurs fielded a complete reserve side and played poorly, with goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini keeping them in the game late. Eventually, Natcho scored a winner for Rubin on a free kick, handing Tottenham their first loss in the competition.

Elsewhere, the likes of PSG, Athletic Bilbao and Stoke City all sealed one goal wins. Here's the complete scoreboard from the early fixtures.

Rubin Kazan 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur

Shamrock Rovers 1-3 PAOK Salonika

FC Copenhagen 1-2 Hannover 96

Vorskla 1-3 Standard Liege

PSV Eindhoven 3-3 Hapoel Tel-Aviv

FC Vaslui 1-0 Sporting Lisbon

Lazio 1-0 Sporting Lisbon

Besiktas 1-0 Dynamo Kiev

Maccabi Tel-Aviv 1-2 Stoke City

PSG 1-0 Slovan Bratislava

SV Salsburg 0-1 Athletic Bilbao
