And you thought Maurizio Zamparini was crazy...turns out Massimo Cellino, owner of Cagliari, is competing with the Palermo patron for the title of most insane figure in Italian football.* Cellino, who sacked Roberto Donadoni in August despite his managing to keep the team in Serie A last season, has now shown Massimo Ficcadenti the door.
The former Cesena manager lasted barely three months with the rossoblu, but apparently tenth place just isn't good enough these days. A string of five winless games was just too much for Cellino, who harbors delusions about playing in Europe (apparently thinking his nearly striker-less squad can beat out the likes of Milan, Roma, Juve, Napoli, Udinese, Lazio...). So he went and appointed Davide Ballardini instead, proving that the right man in charge is the one that fails to qualify his club for the Europa league and manages to heft Genoa to a lofty 10th place.
*to be fair, Aurelio DeLaurentiis also gives it his best shot, but scooter rides with strangers will only get you so far.
