Levante have clinched yet another big win, defeating Sevilla at home by a final score of 1-0, opening up a five-point gap on their...fourth place rivals?!? Coming into this match, Levante sat in fourth place, just two points ahead of Sevilla. The Frogs put in a great performance to give themselves a massive win in this Champions League six-pointer and give themselves some room for error.
It seems absurd to consider Levante as a team in the race for the top four, but perhaps their sample size is large enough to suggest that they're here to stay at this point. They have nine wins from 15 games and were able to get all three points from a huge game against a top-four favorite on Saturday. Despite having the smallest payroll in La Liga, Levante are very much in a European race and 3/4 of the way to a point total that will ensure that they avoid the drop zone.
Victoriano Nano scored the game's only goal on a corner kick. After an incredible scramble that saw Sergio Ballesteros and Arouca Kone have attempts blocked, Nano won a 50-50 challenge with goalkeeper Javi Veras, who couldn't handle the ball and keep it from going into the back of the net.
Sevilla had more shots and much more of the possession, but Levante never looked like conceding. They've now won six of their seven matches at home, only losing to Valencia.
Of course, while there are three games in La Liga this Saturday, all eyes are on one of those. For coverage of Real Madrid vs. Barcelona, check out our El Clasico StoryStream.
