Real Madrid Vs. Barcelona, 2011 El Clasico: Cesc Fabregas Kills Real Off

Stay connected with SB Nation

Game over at the Santiago Bernabeu, and it's a game of two headers between Real Madrid and Barcelona. At one end of the pitch, Cristiano Ronaldo has ever opportunity to even the score when he's presenting with a completely free header just a few yards from goal after an excellent cross by Xabi Alonso, only to send a tame attempt just wide of Victor Valdes's right-hand post. It's a bad, bad miss, and one that's punished - badly - by Barcelona.

The visitors break forward and Cesc Fabregas shows the former Manchester United man how it's done, getting behind the defence to head across Iker Casillas and into the back of the net to make it 3-1 Barcelona, a goal that will almost certainly condemn the hosts to a loss and give Barca a huge shot in the arm in the title race. Jose Mourinho responds by introducing Gonzalo Higuain (who would not have missed Ronaldo's chance) but it seems too little too late for Real now.
