Houston Dynamo's Stadium Has A Name, Now For A Nickname - Dynamo Theory

Stay connected with SB Nation

Now that the Houston Dynamo's stadium has an official name -- BBVA Compass Stadium -- it opens the door for all kinds of nicknames. Martek of Dynamo Theory throws out a few suggestions, most of which appeal to local streets and are high on historical significance. As cute and clever as most of those are, there's one that is clearly the most likely to stick:

The Bank. This one has multiple good points. First, the obvious reference to BBVA Compass is there. Also, it has a perhaps distant reference to Dick Dowling's Bank of Bacchus. I also like the phrases it conjures. "Taking it to the The Bank"... "Dynamo have Banked that win" and more like that. You can do worse than a nickname like that.

Now, that is clearly not the most creative name for a stadium, but it has all the things you want in a nickname: it's short, rolls off the tongue and is memorable. Will some people be confused? Maybe, but isn't that the fun of a nickname?
