Chelsea were already short on options in the center of defense and that was before John Terry went down in training on Monday. Terry was injured at an opening training session benefitting charity when he blocked a shot, but then fell to the ground grabbing his right foot before being helping down the tunnel to the training room. Now Chealsea are really running out of options in the center of defenses and will be desperate for Terry to get over his injury scare before the Blues' match on Thursday versus Tottenham Hotspur.
It is unclear how serious Terry's injury is besides the fact that he had to be helped down the tunnel, but was able to put some weight on the right leg. It's been called a tweak of the Achilles so it doesn't appear it be overly serious, but that's all the information available at this time.
As of now, Branislav Ivanovic is the only fully fit central defender Andres Villas-Boas has at his disposal. Terry is now a question and David Luiz is also a question after a knee knock kept him out of Saturday's draw with Wigan, while Alex has been transfer-listed as is not under consideration to play. If neither Terry nor Luiz can go on Thursday, Villas-Boas will be in quite the pickle.
