Borussia Mönchengladbach Vs. Borussia Dortmund, Bundesliga Week 15: Full Time, Mike Hanke Rescues A Point

Stay connected with SB Nation

Borussia Mönchengladbach did not have Marco Reus in their team on Saturday, but they were able to save a point without them, as they performed well in an impressive 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund. Gladbach did well to get forward, keep possession and create shots while maintaining their shape after losing the ball, as Lucien Favre's men showed why they're the most improved side in the Bundesliga yet again.

Robert Lewandowski scored Dortmund's only goal, heading in a great corner kick by Mario Götze in the 40th minute. Gladbach were very good at denying Dortmund open play chances in the first half and were a bit unlucky to go into the locker room down a goal.

Dortmund looked like the stronger side for most of the second half, but were eventually burned on the counter. After failing to score for the first 13 games of the season, Gladbach striker Mike Hanke netted his second goal in as many games, equalizing for his team. On a 72nd minute counter-attack, Die Fohlen played a brilliant exchange of passes, capped off by a touch by Raul Bobadilla to Hanke, who finished low with a great shot from 20 yards.

The play was even from then on out, with both teams pushing for a winner, but not at the expense of keeping defensively sound. Dortmund had the best opportunity, with Götze putting a low shot on target in the 76th minute, but Marc-Andre ter Stegen made one of his four brilliant saves to deny Der BVB's wonderkid.
