Real Zaragoza Sack Javier Aguirre

Javier Aguirre, while coaching Mexico at the World Cup. Aguirre took over as Real Zaragoza manager last year and saved them from relegation, but has had a terrible first half of this season and has been fired.

Former Atletico Madrid, Osasuna and Mexico manager Javier Aguirre can now add Real Zaragoza to his list of former employers after he was sacked late on Thursday night.

Real Zaragoza are in serious financial difficulty and don't have a particularly deep roster, but the board still expected a little more than they've gotten out of their team and their manager this season. Zaragoza have taken just 10 points from 16 games and are five points away from safety. Due to their poor form, the team has fired manager Javier Aguirre and both sides have come to an agreement on the termination of his contract.

Read a statement, on the club website:

A última hora de la noche del jueves, 29 de diciembre, el Real Zaragoza ha llegado a un acuerdo con Javier Aguirre para la rescisión de su contrato como entrenador del primer equipo del Real Zaragoza.

El Real Zaragoza quiere agradecer la profesionalidad y dedicación mostradas por Javier Aguirre durante el tiempo en el que este ha sido entrenador del equipo.

The statement says, roughly translated, that Real Zaragoza and Javier Aguirre agreed to a contract termination late on Thursday night. Real Zaragoza acknowledges the professionalism and dedication that Aguirre showed while he was the manager of the team.
