Liverpool FC vs. Wigan Athletic: Hosts Lead 1-0 At Half Time

Both sides have been playing some good football but it's Liverpool who go into the interval the happier, having scored via the boot of Raul Meireles in the 24th minute and also rattling the woodwork thanks to some fine work by new signing Luis Suarez. In stark contrast to Liverpool's recent outing at Stamford Bridge, this match is extremely open and end-to-end - in fact, Liverpool's goal may have come slightly against the run of play. Wigan have been threatening throughout the match and have given Pepe Reina a few nervous moments. Admittedly, the most worrying of said moments turned out to be thanks to an amusing handball from Hugo Rodallega, but the visitors are still making Liverpool's defence a little nervous.

For the neutral, it's been an excellent game, but the Anfield faithful will be praying for a second goal from their side in order to kill off the match before Wigan get any sneaky ideas about getting back into the game. As long as there's just one goal in it, Roberto Martinez's side have a reasonable chance of getting something out of the match.
