Manchester United To Play Juventus In Gary Neville Testimonial Match

Former Manchester United right back Gary Neville, who retired from club football in February, is to take the pitch wearing the famous red shirt once again as Juventus come to England for his testimonial match. Neville, who was part of the Manchester United side which won the Champions League in 1999 - securing a thrilling comeback in Turin in the semi-finals - made 602 appearances for his club over a nineteen year career which saw him win major honours on no less than fourteen occasions.

As is tradition when someone of his standing leaves the game, the club will host a friendly match in his honour at Old Trafford. Neville's testimonial will be held on May 24th, and the former defender is looking forward to one last performance under the lights:

I am delighted to be given this game by the club. It is going to be a very emotional night, especially as I pull on that red shirt once more.

I intend to savour every moment and I hope the fans can share in my special night.

Manchester United Defender Gary Neville Retires From Club Football

Former Manchester United captain and right back Gary Neville has officially retired from club football with immediate effect according to reports today. Neville made over 600 appearances for the Red Devils in a career that started in 1992 and ended in 2011.

Now 35 and the victim of multiple injuries over the course of the last few years, Neville spoke candidly about his career upon his retirement as seen on the BBC:

I have been a Manchester United fan all my life and fulfilled every dream I've ever had. I am disappointed that my playing days are at an end, however it comes to us all, and it's knowing when that time is and for me that time is now".

Not a goal scorer but a staunch defender and a good leader on the pitch, Neville walks away from Manchester United just a few weeks away from his 36th birthday with no regrets and with the distinct privilege of having played for one club during his entire career.
