In the battle of the Americans, Clint Dempsey wins out, at least temporarily. After Aston Villa conceded Fulham's fourth corner of the match, Danny Murphy sent in a perfectly placed shot. Dempsey launched himself above everyone in the Villa defense, including goalkeeper Brad Friedel. Friedel could have done much more to save that shot, but instead it's all even at 2-2.
With just ten minutes left to play, it would seem Aston Villa would just want to hang on. After all, they lost their chance at any points in the reverse fixture when Brede Hangeland scored in the last play of the match. Instead, Gerard Houllier has brought on Marc Albrighton in place of Stiliyan Petrov. While Petrov might have been more or less anonymous during this match, he at least has some defensive abilities, whereas Albrighton has zero. This decision could very well lead to a Fulham win.
Oh, and for any fans of the USMNT -- Michael Bradley is not on the bench for Villa.
