It’s time again for an FA Cup draw, but since there are only five teams left in this thing it’s not going to be nearly so convoluted as in rounds past. Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers made it through to the semifinals yesterday by beating Arsenal 2-0 and Birmingham 3-2 respectively, and Stoke joined them on Sunday by seeing off West Ham United 2-1 at the Britannia Stadium. One of Manchester City and Reading will get the fourth and final Wembley berth depending on the outcome of their match later today at the Eastlands. The draw’s coming up…
Semifinal #1: Manchester City or Reading vs. Manchester United.
Semifinal #2: Bolton Wanderers vs. Stoke City.
That’s a perfect draw for the neutral, guaranteeing that only one of the two strongest sides remaining in the contest will make it through to the final. Assuming City manage to get through against Reading (by no means a guarantee), they’ll play arch-enemies United in an eye-watering tie, while Bolton’s clash against Stoke City will see Owen Coyle’s slick passers take on Tony Pullis’… throwing people for a place in the final - and a place in the Europa League. Excellent.
The matches will be played on the weekend of April 16th.
