Omar Bravo Named MLS Player Of The Week After Two-Goal Debut

It didn't take long for Omar Bravo to make his mark on MLS. After a two-goal debut against Chivas USA, Sporting Kansas City's Designated Player was named the MLS Player of the Week.

In scoring two goals, Bravo became the 14th player in league history to score at least two goals in his MLS debut. Amazingly, he was one of three players to pull off that feat this week. DC United's Charlie Davies and the Vancouver Whitecaps Eric Hassli also scored two goals in their debuts.

What appears to have stood out about Bravo's performance was the way he scored his goals. Davies only played 38 minutes and scored one of his goals on a penalty. Both of Hassli's goals came in the run of play, but both were relative sitters.

Bravo, on the other hand, used touch and creativity that are often in short supply in MLS. On the first, he chipped Chivas goalkeeper Zach Thornton from about 20 yards out. On the second, he deftly slid the ball past the goalkeeper with the outside of his foot. Bravo comes to MLS after scoring more than 100 goals while playing in the Mexican Primera and earning more than 60 caps for the Mexican national team.
