Javier Morales made it 2-0 with a penalty drawn by Paulo, Jr from which Josh Saunders may have been lucky to escape with just a yellow. Morales struck agaiin in the 41st minute with a wonderful strike froom the edge of the bbox and the rout was on, 3-0 to Real Salt Lake.
LA Galaxy emerged from the half with a bit more attacking intent, but Real Salt Lake were more than equal to the task, capitalizing on a counter-attack made possible by a horrendous defensive effort by LA Galaxy and a wonderful cross from Espindola to Paulo, Jr.
Juan Pablo Angel got the Galaxy on the score sheet with a tap-in from a David Beckham free-kick, but it was far too little too late from LA as Real Salt Lake established themselves as the best team in MLS by quite some margin on a weekend during which the other consensus powers faltered.
