Aston Villa have a vital lead as they look to haul themselves away from the relegation zone. They'd been looking a little defensively suspect and frankly more or less inept going forward, and with Newcastle United getting into the game more and more it was a wonderful time for Villa to get onto the scoresheet. The move began with the visitors probing down their right flank, but Villa managed to secure the ball and get it to the feet for Gabby Agbonlahor, who duly sprinted halfway down the pitch before he was body checked off the ball my Mike Williamson.
One free kick led to another in a rather more dangerous position, and from Ashley Young's delivery centre back James Collins rose to power a header past Steve Harper in the Newcastle goal. The aggregate score between these sides is now 6-1 on the season, but if it stays that way Villa won't much care - they're on course for a huge three points.
