50-year-old Ian 'Waggy' Wagstaff isn't your typical Bolton Wanderers fan. First of all, he lives in Australia, which makes watching games difficult enough, nevermind going to them, and second (probably more importantly) he quit his job to fly to England for the team's FA Cup semi-final against Stoke City. After all, who could possibly pass up a chance to see their team play at Wembley for the first time in eleven years? Not Mr. Wagstaff:
I've been a Wanderer all my life. I've watched them in every league apart from the Premier League. I told my boss I wanted to go, but he said we were too busy. I told him I was going anyway. It's not every day you get the chance to watch Wanderers at Wembley.
Bolton were then annihilated 5-0 in an implausible game that saw the team 3-0 down in the first half hour. Ouch. Hopefully Mr. Wagstaff wasn't one of the fans who left early. In positive news, he joins SB Nation Soccer's Kirsten Schlewitz in the 'I quit my job and flew to England to watch my team lose to Wembley' club, which will I'm sure be of great comfort to him.
