Bayern Munich Increase Offer For Manuel Neuer

Just two days after questioning whether they could come to an agreement with Schalke 04 for the transfer of Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich have reportedly increased their offer for the Germany number one.

Bild is reporting that the Bavarian giants have increased their offer to €18 million base transfer fee with another guaranteed €3 million in bonuses. There is also the potential for an additional €4 million depending on how successful Bayern Munich is in the UEFA Champions League. The two sides reportedly met for over three hours in an attempt to negotiate the transfer. Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge would admit to Bild that "We had a decent conversation.''

In their search for a replacement for Neuer, Schalke are reportedly looking to the number one of the NetherlandsMaarten Stekelenburg could step in immediately between the Schalke goalpost. Stekelenburg's contract with Ajax is set to expire at the end of 2012, and the club would likely be looking to cash in on the Dutch netminder.

Manuel Neuer: 'No Chance' Of Move To Manchester United

On the day after the brilliance of Schalke 04 and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was finally revealed to the followers of English football, the stopper - and rumoured target of Manchester United - has revealed that there was never any  chance of him moving over to the Red Devils. Sir Alex Ferguson praised Neuer as putting in the best goalkeeping performance he'd ever seen from an opposition player in United's 2-0 victory over Schalke in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final, but Neuer remained unmoved by the flattery:

Of course it's nice to hear things like that. But we have lost 2-0 and that irritates me very much. Manchester United was never an option for me. I will focus now on my performances and my team, all the other things don't matter at the moment.

It's been rumoured that a deal is in the works to take Neuer to Bayern Munich and the Allianz Arena, and that's only been made stronger by Neuer's denial of the possbility of a United move. For Ferguson's part, his supposed interest in Atletico Madrid's David de Gea as a replacement for the retiring Edwin van der Sar seems a lot more reasonable now.

Manuel Neuer Turns Down Contract Offer From Schalke 04

Manuel Neuer has turned down a new deal offered by Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04, making it almost certain that the German international will be moving on in the summer. While he's been heavily linked to Champions League semi-final opponents Manchester United in the past, Neuer now looks more likely to move to Bayern Munich instead, something that's likely to infuriate Schalke fans. In a post on the club's official website, Neuer discussed his reasons for wanting to make a switch:

I have taken this decision without any external influence. The decision has nothing to do with the change of coach or any other person at another club. I have a great deal to thank Schalke and their unique fans for, but I would like to have the opportunity for a change after 20 years' faithful service to this club.

I have made this decision and I wanted to make it public, but now all of the concentration focuses on Schalke's goals for the season. I agree with [director of sport] Horst Heldt that we must have peace and quiet to be as successful as possible in the coming games.

It'll be interesting to see whether he does end up at Bayern. Neuer is considered to be one of the finest goalkeepers in the world, and with his contract expiring at the end of the 2011/12 season Schalke will now be obligated to sell him for a comparatively low fee during the summer transfer window.
