First blood to West Bromwich Albion then. It's a very easy goal too. Jerome Thomas finds Peter Odemwingie with a long crossfield pass into the penalty area, and the Nigerian forward goes shoulder to shoulder with Benoit Assou-Ekotto before sending him tumbling to the ground, cutting back inside onto his left boot and shooting before Michael Dawson could make a vital sliding challenge. The ball glided past Heurelhio Homes and went in off the Brazilian's far post to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at White Hart Lane.
The news gets worse for Tottenham, too - Assou-Ekotto was injured in that challenge and he has to depart the match (although fortunately he managed to walk off the pitch). It looked like he caught himself in the pitch during that joust with Odemwingie and he went down in a bit of a heap and stayed there for a while. Sandro comes in to replace the left back, but that's the last thing Harry Redknapp needs right now. An early goal and an injury? Yuck.
