Portland Timbers Vs. Real Salt Lake: Kenny Cooper Puts Portland Ahead 1-0

The match started slow but in the 22nd minute, the Timbers woke Jeld-Wen Field just as I was thinking, this match needs more chainsaw.

After the Timbers earned a free kick in space, Jack Jewsbury found Kalif Alhassan with a quick, short free kick who ran towards the end line before sending a well placed cross that found Kenny Cooper in space. Cooper flicked the ball in to the net then climbed the cross bar to celebrate the strike.

It's only the second league goal allowed by Real Salt Lake this season and the first in the last 213 minutes. It's still early but the question can already be asked if their loss in the CONCACAF Champions League could weigh on this RSL club for a little while, especially considering how dominate they have been so far this season against MLS competition.

Then again, this could be the wake-up call they need to focus and get back to their winning ways.
