San Jose Earthquakes Re-Sign Head Coach Frank Yallop and GM John Doyle

What do you get when you take your club back to the playoffs for the first time since 2005? For San Jose Earthquakes head coach Frank Yallop and general manager John Doyle, it means getting new multi-year contracts. The club announced today that both Yallop and Doyle have signed new deals with the club after the pair was largely responsible for getting the club a game away from the MLS Cup last year. 

Both are in their fourth straight season with the Bay Area club. They were both brought in when the club's revival was announced after the original Earthquakes moved to Houston in 2006. While the club has had its shares of ups and down since re-joining Major League Soccer, they did put together a strong campaign in 2010 that saw them reach the Eastern Conference finals. The team posted a 13-10-7 record and 46 points, which was the third highest point total in team history.

"Frank and John have been vital to the success of the franchise over the last three years and we look forward to a continuation of those winning ways," Earthquakes President David Kaval said in a team release. "From our blossoming Youth Academy to the development of our First Team, the leadership of our technical staff has been exceptional. We feel very good about where are now and the direction we are headed."

Keeping Yallop and Doyle is a smart thing by the Quakes. While both were on the hot seat going into the 2010 season, they made calculated moved that paid off well for them. From finally getting the most out of guys like Chris Wondolowski and Bobby Convey to signing their first Designated Player Geovanni, all were moves that pushed them towards the post season.
