Tottenham Hotspur recovered from their mid-week battering by Real Madrid by taking care of Stoke City at White Hart Lane, winning 3-2 thanks to a pair of goals from Peter Crouch and an excellent low shot from Croatian playmaker Luka Modric. Stoke certainly made it interesting, though - a brilliant stike from winger Matthew Etherington made the score 2-1 in the 27th minute before Crouch and Kenwyne Jones traded goals before half time.
Despite five goals in the first half, the second remained scoreless mostly thanks to a heroically poor effort from Potter striker Jon Walters, who managed to hit the post from two yards out and the goal gaping shortly after the break. It was the closest the visitors would come to an equaliser, and although they spent the remainder of the match pressing for a goal they simply couldn't find one.
Stoke slip to twelth following West Bromwich Albion's win at the Stadium of Light, while Tottenham remain in fifth place, three points behind Manchester City in the race for the Champions League spots. City face off against Liverpool on Monday.
