Hamburg are trying to complete a double signing of Chelsea duo Michael Mancienne and Josh McEachran.
Frank Arnesen was hired by Hamburg as their sporting director on February 20, 2011. He previously held the same position at Chelsea from June 2005 through November 2010. Arnesen is believed to be targeting several English Premier League players that he's had previous experience with while in England.
Mancienne, 23, played very few matches for the Chelsea first team since his signing in 2006. He has spent the majority of that time on loan with Queens Park Rangers and Wolverhampton Wanderers. First team opportunities have not been in the cards for Mancienne, and he's expected to sign a three to four year contract with Hamburg. The transfer deal is expected to be around €2-3 million.
The deal for young McEachran, 18, is a bit more complicated. McEachran just made his debut for the Chelsea first team in November 2010. He would make 17 first team appearances int he 2010-2011 season, including becoming the first player born after the inception of the competition to take part in it. It was decided that McEachran's performances earned him a long term extension with the club. While he was at Chelsea, Arnesen was unable to reach an agreement with McEachran, and the club has had no luck since without a sporting director in place. Arnesen has used Chelsea's lack of a sporting director and now a manager to make a move for McEachran.
