Shalrie Joseph Among MLSers Skipping Gold Cup Opportunity

Despite being one of, if not the greatest soccer players to ever suit up for Grenada, Shalrie Joseph has just 30 caps. Apparently, he won't be getting his 31st during the 2011 Gold Cup as Joseph has opted to remain with the New England Revolution.

"I think the best decision was to stay and play for the Revolution," Joseph told MLSsoccer.com. "I’m the captain. Guys look up to me. They need me to be to there in a time we’re in desperate need. I couldn’t afford to leave them and walk away."

Also skipping at least the Gold Cup's group stage is Colorado Rapids forward Omar Cummings. His Rapids and potential Jamaican teammate Tyrone Marshall has said he is also considering staying with his club, at least for the early rounds. Cummings has not played in a competitive match since suffering an injury on May 4, but is expected to return to action this week.
