Despite appearing to have progression to the quarterfinals of Copa Libertadores in the bag at halftime, Internacional have been sent crashing out of the competition in stunning fashion. Thanks two two goals immediately after halftime, the first of which came just 14 seconds after play resumed, Peñarol are going through to the next round of Copa Libertadores after winning 2-1 on the night at the Beira-Rio and 3-2 on aggregate.
Oscar's goal for Inter just 80 seconds into the game put his team ahead after a 1-1 draw in Montevideo, and the first half would end with the hosts on the night holding a 2-1 aggregate advantage. However, just 14 seconds after the kickoff, Jose Manuel Olivera slid a ball into the box for Alejandro Martinuccio, and he finished calmly with a high shot into the upper ninety. In the 50th minute, Peñarol took the lead for good as Olivera notched a goal of his own, scoring a header from close range.
Peñarol will face the winner of the Universidad Catolica-Gremio tie, which concludes tonight.
