Ecuador Names Squad For Copa America
Ecuador has named its 23-man squad for this summer's Copa America, headlined by Manchester United's Antonio Valencia and Club America's Christian Benitez. Of the 23 players, 16 play their club ball in Ecuador. Three players play in Europe and four in Mexico, including Benitez, who led the Primera Division in scoring last season.
Grouped with Brazil, Paraguay and Venezuela in Group B, Ecuador will have a tough road to the knockout stage, but after coming just one point short of a spot in the 2010 World Cup, they are a dangerous team. In 2007 Copa America Ecuador lost all three of their matches by a single goal and were eliminated in the group stages with zero pints.
Ecuador will open their Copa America campaign on July 3 against Paraguay in Sante Fe, Argentina.
