Claude Puel Out As Manager Of Olympique Lyonnais

After three straight disappointing seasons at the helm of Olympique Lyonnais, manager Claude Puel has finally parted ways with the French giants. His departure from Lyon was believed to be all but inevitable after the club's disappointing performance in Ligue 1 this season, but the club finally made it official today. The club said the following, in French.

L'Olympique Lyonnais informe du départ de Claude Puel qui n'est plus l'entraîneur général du club à compter de ce jour.

That statement simply says that Puel has departed Lyon, and that he is no longer the club's head coach as of today. It does not, however, indicate if Puel's departure was due to a resignation, firing, or mutual consent.

With Marseille and Lille currently trying to hold on to their best players, it might take some serious investment in the team and a new philosophy for Lyon to catch up and once again ascend to the top of French football. That task is also complicated by the resurgence of Paris St. Germain, who have been linked to a host of expensive reinforcements as a result of their new investment from Qatar.
