Striker Steven Lenhart scored his first goal as a member of the San Jose Earthquakes to help seal a 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo Saturday night.
Lenhart's goal came in the 68th minute to break the deadlock in the game. He took a long ball from Steven Beitashour in the penalty box and headed it past Houston keeper Tally Hall for the go-ahead goal in the game. For a while it looked as though that was all the Quakes needed to beat the Dynamo until Simon Dawkins scored an insurance goal in the 91st minute.
Houston had a couple chances late in the match with former San Jose striker Cam Weaver. The tall striker put in a good shot on Jon Busch but the veteran keeper was up to the task. Colin Clark also has a decent attempt on goal late in the game but it didn't trouble Busch.
The Quakes are now unbeaten in their last five matches and are riding a three game home winning streak. The win still only keeps them at seventh in a very congested Western Conference. At 16 points they still trail Portland, Chivas, and many others.
The loss brings the Dynamo's winless streak to seven games now. With other results this weekend the Dynamo are now tied with Columbus for fifth in the Eastern Conference.
