The opening round La Liga fixture between Real Madrid and Real Zaragoza was probably over before Xabi Alonso hit the third goal of the game, but his stunner was the catalyst that lead to the match being an absolute drubbing. With Madrid up 3-0 in the second half, the flood gates opened and Madrid scored three more times. It's hard to blame Zaragoza, wouldn't you be demoralized by this goal?
The defending wasn't the best from Zaragoza on this goal (or at any point during the rest of the game), but it was still a serious dagger. They made a couple of clearances and blocks, and it looked like they had done well to avoid any real danger. Then, Alonso stepped up and hit a fantastic finish.
Alonso, former Liverpool star and Madrid's regista, actually didn't score once in the entire La Liga campaign last season, which is a natural product of how deep he plays on the pitch. This year, he's on the board in Week 1.
