In a move so bizarre that I'm not really sure how to report it, Aston Villa appear to have allowed central midfielder Jean Makoun to join Greek outfit Olympiakos on a season-long loan with a view towards permanence. The transfer has been officially confirmed, according to Villa beat reporter Matt Kendrick:
Jean Makoun's season long loan to Olympiakos has now been confirmed
This is an odd decision for a number of reasons. Let's look at them.
- Jean Makoun
iswas one of Aston Villa's two best central midfielders.
- Aston Villa have no midfield depth.
- Aston Villa also have no creativity in the centre with Barry Bannan and Jean Makoun not playing.
- Jean Il Makoun sounds like one of the Beastie Boys.
Nope, still can't really wrap my head around it. Makoun, of course, was a Gerard Houllier purchase in January from lyon, and the recent change of manager appears to have put him in the doghouse while the... less French-seemingly players are experiencing a new McLeish of life under the current regime. Jean must wish that his name was spelled 'MacCoun'.
