La Liga Transfer Update: Dabo, Orbaiz Out, Barragán In

  • 24 year-old Senegalese defender (and French U-21 international)  Mouhamadou Dabo has signed a four year deal with Olympique Lyon, leaving Sevilla FC for €1.8 million. Sevilla should be disappointed to see him go, as he's a young player with some potential (and they have a pretty weak defense); at the same time, he hasn't been able to cut it with the first team on an every day basis, so his transfer shouldn't come as a shock.
  • In similar news, Athletic Bilbao captain Pablo Orbaiz is expected to leave the Basque side after 11 years to play on loan at Olympiakos in Athens, Greece. This move will provide a coda to what has been a long and successful career for the Basque, who played in 318 official matches for Athletic. He'll join his ex-teammate Fran Yeste in Greece.
  • In terms of arrivals, Valencia have announced the purchase of 24 year-old right back Antonio Barragán from Valladolid for €1.5 million. Barragán was a mainstay on the Spanish U-20 and U-21 teams, and he joined Deportivo la Coruña in 2006. He was dealt to Valladolid in 2009, after a brief period where he was linked to Liverpool. He still has potential despite his mediocre club career, and Valencia should feel quite good about this signing.
  • Finally, sources are reporting that Racing Santander and Alexandros Tziolis have agreed on a deal that will bring the Greek midfielder to Santander for one year. According to reports, Tziolis will rescind his contract with Italian side Siena, and sign with Racing on Saturday. This move will shore up Racing's central midfield, at least for this season.
