Hello United States Soccer Federation; Meet The Face Of MLS

Stay connected with SB Nation

Earlier this evening, the Seattle Sounders defeated FC Dallas 1-0 in the US Open Cup semifinals. The first half was a showcase for American soccer; two of the best teams in the highest division in the nation did battle on the pitch and the spectacle was tremendous. Seattle entered the half with a 1-0 lead, but nothing was certain given the quality of play from both sides.

And then of course the second half happened. And it wasn't pretty. Frankly, the whole thing was and end-to-end slap-fight, each side equally culpable in the war of attrition that  took place. But eventually, FC Dallas went a bit too far. Sounders forward Mike Fucito took the ball into the corner in injury time, and there was a bit of a scrap. No big deal. Until, well, just take a gander after the jump:

(WARNING: There is a pretty nasty picture after the jump. There's blood and such. You've been warned.)

Lovely! Even better: the complete and total lack of a booking from the referee. Because this is clearly the result of clean play in the corner with the bloodied individual in control of the ball with his back to all defenders. But you know, keep on doing what you're doing USSF referees; you're pretty clearly on top of things.
