It simply wouldn't be Serie A without Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini, so he must do whatever he can do to keep the rosanero from being relegated. According to Zamp himself, that meant firing coach Stefano Pioli on deadline day.
Pioli, brought in from Chievo Verona after Delio Rossi was sacked for the second time last season, only had the summer to get his squad in order. But when you're dealing with a man as volatile as Zamparini, it's best to make a very, very good first impression. Pioli couldn't cut it. And with Palermo losing Javier Pastore and Salvatore Sirigu to PSG, and at the last minute Antonio Nocerino to AC Milan (as well as a host of other players leaving the club), Pioli would have had a struggle to keep this team up -- and the president had no faith that he could keep Palermo out of Serie B. For now, Devis Mangia, Primavera coach, is in charge.
And so, once again, it appears that Palermo are trying to woo Rossi back to the club. You'd think he'd be smart enough to stay away, but he's like the man that has already had his girlfriend abandon him twice for sexier men, but when she sits across from him and crosses her legs, he just can't help but go running back to her.
