For 90 minutes neither Cruz Azul nor Monarcas Morelia did much of anything besides waste chances and not even come close on them. On one side a player would get free from 15 yards and blast it 10 yards over the cross bar. On the other side a player would have a pass available to put a teammate in on goal, but he would shoot wide from 25 yards instead. The match was the pinnacle of frustration and neither team deserved to win, but the Joao Rojas scored just before the fulltime whistle to give Morelia a 1-0 win. No, football isn't fair.
Rojas' goal was actually a nice one. Jaime Lozano had the ball at the top of the box and spotted Rojas making a good diagonal run so Lozano chipped the ball in behind the defense. Rojas got there and finished well to get Morelia the goal and the win, but it didn't erase 90 minutes of poor football.
Some might look to the match as exciting because most of the action was in the final third instead of the midfield, but taking speculative shots when the match calls for more patient and incisive play, well that's not exciting. Blasting away a chances instead of playing it cool and putting it on frame isn't exciting either. It was poor, but Morelia got three points so what can ya do?
