If there was an MLS game taking place at the Home Depot Center on Saturday night, no one bothered to inform Chivas USA. DC United showed up, however, and managed to notch a 3-0 win to solidify their playoff position. Charlie Davies was fantastic with a hat trick, but to be completely honest, he should have scored six. Despite the fact that Davies netted a hat trick, the man of the match was almost certainly an other man - Chris Pontius. Davies' striker partner was absolutely brilliant, setting up all three of the goals.
The first two goals came in the 11th and 15th minutes, effectively ending the game before it really got started. DC continued to dominate throughout the first half, but missed numerous good chances to extend their lead. Chivas got a bit more into the game after the halftime break, but order was restored in the 66th minute when Davies completed his hat trick.
DC United now moves up to fifth place in the East on 34 points, but they have either two or three games in hand on every team above them in the schedule, and they're actually in an excellent position to potentially shoot to the top of the East.
