Barcelona Vs. AC Milan, 2011 UEFA Champions League: Pato Scores In The First 30 Seconds

Stay connected with SB Nation

The anthem has played, Martin Atkinson has blown the whistle, and we're off at Camp Nou, with champions Barcelona hosting AC Milan -- AND PATO HAS SCORED WITHIN 23 SECONDS!!!

Wow, is that the fastest goal scored in the Champions League? Can anyone remember one being scored so quickly?

From the kickoff, straight through to the goal, and no one can catch Alexandre Pato. Sergio Busquets doesn't have the legs, and Eric Abidal looked as though he had no idea what hit him. Unsurprisingly, really, because the supremely confident hosts would have had no idea that this Italian side was going to start with a bang. But with Barcelona lacking a strong central defense, it was bound to happen at some point -- but certainly no one thought the goal would come so quickly.

Pep Guardiola does have Carles Puyol on the bench, and he might be wondering right now why he didn't start the center back. Will we see the return of Puyol soon?
