Barcelona Vs. AC Milan, 2011 Champions League: Milan Getting A Bit Physical

Stay connected with SB Nation

AC Milan's nerves are starting to show. While Max Allegri's side is still exhibiting the necessary organization to keep Barcelona from scoring, the unnecessary fouls are starting up already, with just 20 minutes left to play. Mark Van Bommel earned the first yellow card of the match with a foul on Lionel Messi, and hopefully learned a clear lesson when the Argentine hit the post with a curving ball from his free kick.

Just a couple minutes later, Ignazio Abate was fortunate not to pick up his own yellow, when he took down Eric Abidal on the edge of the area. Milan need to calm down a bit -- if they want to leave Camp Nou with a win, or even a draw, they're going to need to keep all eleven players on the pitch. Obvious, I know, but sometimes nerves just get the best of squads, particularly when the skill of Barcelona keeps the opposition from even touching the ball.
