UEFA Europa League 2011, Matchday 1: Atletico Madrid, Udinese Get Wins In Late Matches

Much like the early round of fixtures in the UEFA Europa League's first matchday, the late round didn't produce much in the way of surprises. Udinese notched an expected win, Fulham FC and FC Twente drew, and Atletico Madrid defeated Celtic.

Anderlecht and AZ Alkmaar were the most impressive teams during the late games, as both pulled out 4-1 wins over AEK Athens and Malmo FF respectably. American international striker Jozy Altidore had a big part in AZ's win, scoring a fantastic goal to keep his rich vein of scoring form alive.

Below are all of the scores from the late games. Here are all of the early match results.

Atletico Madrid 2-0 Celtic

Austria Vienna 1-2 FC Metalist Kharkiv

AZ Alkmaar 4-1 Malmo FF

Birmingham City 1-3 Braga

Club Brugge 2-0 NK Maribor

Udinese 2-1 Stade Rennes

Maccabi Haifa 1-0 AEK Larnaca

Steaua Bucharest 0-0 Schalke 04

Atletico Madrid Vs. Celtic, UEFA Europa League 2011: Full Time, Atleti Win 2-0

Atletico Madrid haven't gotten off to the best start in La Liga, but they might have found themselves a bit of momentum, as well as chemistry between their new signings, after Thursday night's UEFA Europa League result. They're in pole position to advance to the knockout stages, following a comfortable 2-0 win over Celtic in which they were the better side for the entire evening.

The first goal was an absolutely inexcusable one for Celtic to concede. On a corner kick, new singing Radamel Falcao, the record holder for most goals in one European competition, was somehow left completely unmarked and allowed to hit a powerful header into the back of the net.

Another new signing scored the second, with Diego putting in a classy finish from 12 yards out. That sealed the deal for Atleti, who won a little too comfortably for not looking spectacular on the night.

UEFA Europa League 2011, Matchday 1: PSG Win, Tottenham Draw In Surprise-Free Early Session

There was plenty of solid football played in the early round of fixtures in the UEFA Europa League, but no big shocks. Paris St. Germain came out with a solid 3-1 win, Tottenham's youth and reserve team got a draw away to PAOK, and Stoke City managed to pull off a draw against Dynamo Kiev.

Lazio probably had the biggest disappointment of the round, drawing FC Vaslui at home despite playing close to a full strength side. Djibril Cisse scored in the first half on a penalty, but Vaslui took the lead in the second with goals on either side of a Luciano Zauri red card. However, a 10-man Lazio side was able to find an equalizer through Giuseppe Scuili to avoid an embarrassing loss.

Here are all of the results from across the early games.

PAOK 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur

Shamrock Rovers 0-3 Rubin Kazan

FC Copenhagen 1-0 Vorskla

Hannover 0-0 Standard Liege

Hapoel Tel-Aviv 0-1 Rapid Bucharest

PSV Eindhoven 1-0 Legia Warsaw

FC Zurich 0-2 Sporting Lisbon

Lazio 2-2 Vaslui

Besiktas 5-1 Maccabi Tel-Aviv

Dynamo Kiev 1-1 Stoke

PSG 3-1 SV Salzburg

Slovan Bratislava 1-2 Athletic Bilbao
