Celtic are holding their own against a favored Atletico Madrid side in their opening UEFA Europa League fixture, but Atleti have a deserved 1-0 lead at halftime. While Atletico haven't been able to do a whole lot in the way of creating clear cut scoring chances from open play, they were able to create one early on from a set piece, scored by new signing Radamel Falcao.
The marking by Celtic on the set piece was absolutely baffling. Either their coaching staff didn't bother to do a lot of scouting or their players were a little too thick headed to retain the information given to them. Somehow, Falcao - the man with the all-time record for goals scored in one European competition - was left completely unmarked on a corner kick and scored with a powerful header.
Once again, Celtic left Falcao unmarked on a set piece. The Radamel Falcao, unmarked on a set piece. I can't get over how ridiculous this is.
