Atletico Madrid Vs. Celtic, UEFA Europa League 2011: Full Time, Atleti Win 2-0

Stay connected with SB Nation

Atletico Madrid haven't gotten off to the best start in La Liga, but they might have found themselves a bit of momentum, as well as chemistry between their new signings, after Thursday night's UEFA Europa League result. They're in pole position to advance to the knockout stages, following a comfortable 2-0 win over Celtic in which they were the better side for the entire evening.

The first goal was an absolutely inexcusable one for Celtic to concede. On a corner kick, new singing Radamel Falcao, the record holder for most goals in one European competition, was somehow left completely unmarked and allowed to hit a powerful header into the back of the net.

Another new signing scored the second, with Diego putting in a classy finish from 12 yards out. That sealed the deal for Atleti, who won a little too comfortably for not looking spectacular on the night.
